Chattogram school headmaster Milton Das alleges harassment over ad-hoc committee

Milton Bikash Das, headmaster of Bazalia High School in Satkania upazila, Chattogram, has alleged that he was publicly harassed by BNP leader Taslim Uddin and his younger brother Mohiuddin over the formation of an ad-hoc committee for the school.

Taslim Uddin is a former member of Chattogram South District BNP and former general secretary of Dharmapur Union BNP. His younger brother Mohiuddin is also involved in union-level BNP politics.

Headmaster Milton Bikash Das said, "I was going to school by auto-rickshaw from home on Thursday morning (August 27). Suddenly, at the entrance of Fakirpara, Taslim and his brother Mohiuddin along with their associates stopped the auto-rickshaw. They forced me out and first took away my mobile phone. Then they harassed me, demanding that I hand over a file related to the formation of the ad-hoc committee. At that time, when a teacher and an employee of the school came forward, they calmed down and went to the office with me. When some guardians and locals came to the school after hearing the news, there was a scuffle. Later, after police arrived, I was forced to hand over the file to them."

He said that to become president of the school's ad-hoc committee, one must be a graduate. But among the three names on their list, one person did not provide their educational qualification certificate. Despite repeated requests, they did not submit it. Instead, they pressured him to send the file to the upazila in violation of rules. He said he was harassed because he refused to bow to their demands. He has already informed higher authorities about the matter.

Regarding the allegations, BNP leader Taslim Uddin said, "The allegations brought against us are completely baseless and fabricated. After the decision to form the ad-hoc committee, we contacted the local MP, who recommended Abdul Wahab as president. But Milton Bikash sir refused to follow the MP's advice and said he would not allow the BNP family to enter the school. We want to run the school through good people and improve the quality of education."

Satkania Police Station Sub-Inspector Mamun said, "We reached the school immediately after receiving the news and brought the situation under control."
