The Election Commission (EC) filed a case against Mustafizur Rahman, Awami League-nominated candidate for Chattogram-16 constituency, for assaulting journalists and violating the electoral code of conduct.

Harun Mollah, Banshkhali Election Officer, filed the case with the Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Deb's court under section 8 (b) of the Electoral Code of Conduct.

Advocate Sheikh Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury, the Public Prosecutor of Chattogram District, stated that the court has issued summon for the accused, directing them to appear before the court by January 3.

As per the case details, Mustafizur Rahman and his supporters allegedly subjected two journalists to physical harassment on November 30 at the Chattogram Deputy Commissioner's office. The altercation occurred when the journalists questioned him about the alleged violation of the electoral code of conduct during the submission of nomination papers. Additionally, the accused reportedly vandalized cameras and other equipment during the attack.

According to the electoral code of conduct, a candidate is restricted to having no more than five supporters when collecting and submitting nomination papers.
