Chhatra Dal activist murder in Sylhet: 3 arrested including cousin

Police have arrested three people, including a cousin, in connection with the murder of Chhatra Dal activist Ismail Hossain Nabil following a family dispute in Kanaighat, Sylhet.

The arrested are Zainal Abedin, 55, son of late Yakub Ali of Muktapur village, his son Lokman Hossain, 25, and Islam Uddin, 22.

Kanaighat police station officer-in-charge Md Aminul Islam said the accused were sent to jail through a court on Thursday, February 5.

He said the suspects were arrested from Osmaninagar late at night within 12 hours of filing the murder case on Wednesday, February 4.

Police said Nabil was stabbed to death by his cousin Islam Uddin around 10:30 am on Wednesday.

Local sources said the dispute began over dumping soil near a bathroom on the boundary of two adjacent houses. At one stage, Islam Uddin stabbed Nabil, killing him on the spot.

Nabil was the son of Abul Haris of Muktapur village. He was a student of Kanaighat Government College and was involved in Chhatra Dal politics.
