A young man named Ismail Hossain Nabil, aged 21, was killed after being stabbed by his cousin due to a family dispute in Kanaighat, Sylhet. The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 4, around 10:30 am in Muktapur village of Barochatul union in the upazila.
The deceased Nabil was the son of Abul Harish from Muktapur village. Local sources said he was a student of Kanaighat Government College and was involved in the politics of Chhatra Dal.
Kanaighat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Aminul Islam said initial information suggests that the cousin, Islam Hossain, stabbed Nabil following a dispute over land. An argument broke out between the two in the morning over dumping soil in the bathroom of their house. At one point, Islam Hossain stabbed Nabil with a knife, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rescued the injured Nabil and first took him to Kanaighat Upazila Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was being taken to Sylhet's Osmani Medical College Hospital for better treatment but died on the way, according to Barochatul Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Malik Chowdhury.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been recovered and kept at the Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. No one had been arrested in connection with the incident until Wednesday evening, the OC said.
