The Rajshahi University unit of Chhatra Dal has demanded that the upcoming elections for the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU), hall unions, and university senate be postponed until after the Durga Puja holidays.

The demand was made during a press briefing held on Monday at the university’s transport market area. Sheikh Nur Uddin Abir, vice-president of the RU Chhatra Dal and the panel's vice-president candidate for the RUCSU election, addressed reporters on the matter.

"We firmly believe in democratic processes," Abir said. "However, the vibrant election atmosphere we witnessed just 48 hours ago has now faded. Most students have already left for the Puja vacation, and voter presence on campus is extremely low."

Chhatra Dal leaders expressed concern that the current environment could affect the fairness and credibility of the election. "We want a participatory and fair election with the highest possible voter turnout," Abir added.

He urged the university’s Election Commission to reconsider the timing of the vote. “If the Commission truly considers voter presence and student interest, they should try to understand the current student sentiment. Holding the election after Durga Puja would be more appropriate,” he said.

According to the existing schedule, the RAKSU election is set to be held on September 25.
