Chhatra Dal gives 24-hour ultimatum to administration
The Dhaka University unit of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (Chhatra Dal) has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the university administration to take action against certain DUCSU representatives. The demand was formally submitted on Sunday (January 25) through a memorandum to the university’s proctor.
In the memorandum, the organization alleged that following the controversial DUCSU elections in September, some DUCSU representatives, in collaboration with certain administrative officers and students, had formed a syndicate involved in extortion and eviction of shops. The memorandum claimed that false allegations are being used to create violence against political activists, raising serious concern over the campus’s peace and academic environment.
The memorandum outlined two demands: first, the university administration should provide clear guidelines on operating small businesses and shops on campus and ensure their proper communication. Second, appropriate action must be taken against those involved in the extortion and shop eviction syndicate—whether DUCSU representatives or administrative officers/staff—based on the allegations.
After submitting the memorandum, Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon told reporters, “To undermine the nationwide festive atmosphere of exercising long-awaited voting rights and the massive support for BNP, a long-standing incident has been deliberately used to label political opponents as extortionists through false propaganda.”
He further added, “In this context, we have formally submitted a written complaint to the university administration, demanding that they investigate immediately and disclose to DU students by tonight whether there is any connection to extortion.”
