Chhatra Dal leader expelled over name in BNP leader murder case

Mokarram Hossain Khoka, convenor of the upazila Chhatra Dal, has been expelled from the organisation over allegations of involvement in the murder case of Mithamain Upazila BNP President Jahidul Alam Jahangir. The decision was confirmed by Kishoreganj District Chhatra Dal General Secretary Rakibul Islam Nawshad on Monday (July 20).

He said Khoka's name surfaced in the initial statement of Helal, who was caught by locals in the murder case. Additionally, it was alleged that three accused in the case had stayed at the homes of Khoka's relatives for three days. Nawshad said Khoka neither contacted the organisation nor clarified his position; instead, he went into hiding. Considering these matters, he was expelled in line with organisational discipline. However, no investigation committee has been formed yet.

Earlier, on Sunday (July 19), a press release signed by District Chhatra Dal Organising Secretary Rahat Islam Sagar announced the expulsion.

The press release stated that Mokarram Hossain Khoka was expelled from all organisational positions, including primary membership, based on specific allegations of breach of organisational discipline. The decision was approved by District Chhatra Dal President Shariful Islam Nishad and General Secretary Rakibul Islam Nawshad.

On the night of July 15, Upazila BNP President Jahidul Alam Jahangir was killed in an attack by miscreants in front of his home in the Mithamain town area. Following the murder, locals detained a person named Helal from the scene, who reportedly mentioned Mokarram Hossain Khoka's name during initial questioning. Police later arrested two more individuals.

A murder case was filed at Mithamain Police Station by the victim's wife, Taslima Akhter Chowdhury, naming three individuals and 10 to 12 unidentified persons as accused.
