A local Chhatra Dal leader has sought the intervention of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate a controversial bribery allegation made by Kushtia-3 lawmaker Amir Hamza, who previously claimed he had been offered Tk 50 crore to keep Kushtia Medical College closed.

The application was submitted to the ACC chairman on Monday (June 22) by Hridoy Hasan, a member of the convening committee of Kushtia district Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, requesting that the anti-graft body question the MP and verify the authenticity of his claim.

According to the complaint, Amir Hamza made the allegation during an iftar event in Kushtia on February 26, stating that unidentified individuals had offered him Tk 50 crore to obstruct the operation of Kushtia Medical College.

The statement sparked widespread discussion and debate across both mainstream and social media platforms.

Hridoy Hasan said a legal notice had earlier been served on the lawmaker, demanding that he disclose the identities of those allegedly involved in the bribery offer or initiate legal proceedings against them. Despite the notice, no information was made public and no legal action was taken.

His lawyer, Abdul Majid, said the notice was sent on April 1, giving the MP seven days to reveal the names of the alleged bribery proposers or hand the matter over to law enforcement agencies. As no response was received, they have now sought a formal ACC inquiry.

The complaint argues that an allegation involving such a large amount of money warrants an independent investigation, particularly when the identities of the alleged individuals remain undisclosed and no official case has been filed.

Commenting on the issue, Kushtia district BNP Member Secretary Jakir Hossain Sarkar said the matter requires clarification, urging the MP to publicly identify those who allegedly made the offer.

The Anti-Corruption Commission has yet to issue any official statement regarding the application.
