The house of a Jahangirnagar University Chhatra Dal leader has been attacked and vandalised in Hatiya upazila, Noakhali. The victim alleged that NCP activists carried out the attack after he shared a Facebook post accusing MP Abdul Hannan Masud of corruption. The NCP has denied the allegation.

The incident occurred around 8:45 pm on Thursday, June 4, in the Sagar Bazar area of Burirchar union.

The victim, Abdul Gaffar, also known as Jisan, is a member of the convener committee of Jahangirnagar University Chhatra Dal. Local BNP and its associate organisations held protests following the attack.

On June 3, former Gonoadhikar Parishad leader Rashed Khan, who recently joined BNP, posted on Facebook alleging that after the mass uprising, MP Abdul Hannan Masud became involved in corruption and attempted a financial settlement with a former Awami League leader. The post claimed that Hannan Masud had said, "Not one crore, but a deal for three crore taka."

Chhatra Dal leader Abdul Gaffar shared Rashed Khan's post on his Facebook ID the same day.

Hannan Masud later released an audio recording of a phone conversation with Gaffar on his Facebook account, calling the allegations false and demanding an explanation. At one point in the conversation, Gaffar could be heard apologising.

Rashed Khan later released another video in which Gaffar claimed he had only called to calm the situation and that the statement about a three-crore taka 'deal' was true.

According to local sources and police, following the exchange on social media, a group of people hurled bricks and stones at Abdul Gaffar's family home on Thursday night, breaking windowpanes and causing panic among family members.

Gaffar alleged that NCP activists attacked his home after the allegations against MP Hannan Masud became public. "I do not live at home. My elderly parents live there. What is their crime?" he said.

Hatiya upazila NCP convener Md Shamsu Tibriz denied the allegation, calling it baseless. "There is no basis to the claim that NCP leaders and activists were involved. It could be a drama to defend his own position," he said.

MP Abdul Hannan Masud rejected the allegations against him, calling them completely baseless and politically motivated. "If the allegations were true, Gaffar would not have called me and apologised," he said.

Hatiya Police Station OC Md Kabir Hossain said police have visited the spot and advised the victim's father to file a written complaint. Legal action will be taken upon receiving the complaint.
