Chhatra Dal, Shibir men clash at Dhaka Alia Madrasah

Dozens were injured in a clash between activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Islami Chhatra Shibir at Government Madrasah-e-Alia, widely known as Dhaka Alia Madrasah, in Bakshibazar area on Tuesday afternoon.

The clash reportedly broke out over control of the institution’s residential halls, heightening tensions across the campus before law enforcers brought the situation under control.

Confirming the incident, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner (Chawkbazar Zone) Md Mahfuzar Rahman said that the two groups had taken positions on the campus despite the presence of police.

He said police intervened to contain the situation.

Witnesses said activists from both groups were seen carrying pipes and sticks during the confrontation.

Several videos circulating on social media also showed members of rival groups armed with locally made weapons engaging in chases and counter-chases before the clash.
