Fresh clashes broke out between activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir outside Dhaka Alia Madrasa in the capital's Bakshibazar area on Tuesday, following earlier violence at Jagannath University.

The latest confrontation began at around 5:15pm, when activists from the rival student organisations engaged in repeated chases and counter-chases, hurled bricks, and clashed on the road in front of the madrasa. The violence continued intermittently into the evening, leaving several people from both sides injured.

Earlier in the day, at least 50 people were reported injured in clashes between Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir during events marking the second anniversary of the July Mass Uprising at Jagannath University.

The unrest later spread to Bakshibazar, where the first round of clashes occurred at around 3:00pm outside Dhaka Alia Madrasa. Traffic resumed after the situation briefly calmed.

Tensions flared again later in the afternoon.

According to Chhatra Shibir, Chhatra Dal activists entered the dormitory at noon, assaulted Shibir members and locked several rooms. Shibir claimed the clashes began after its activists chased those responsible, adding that around 20 of its members were injured.

Chhatra Dal, however, alleged that since 5 August last year, Shibir activists had occupied several rooms in the madrasa hostel and had sheltered outsiders there on Monday night.

The organisation claimed that Shibir activists locked one of its rooms on Tuesday, prompting Chhatra Dal members to lock several Shibir-occupied rooms in retaliation. The dispute then escalated into violent clashes.

Chhatra Dal said at least 18 of its activists, including members of Jubo Dal, were injured.

Meanwhile, reports of the clashes also triggered fresh tensions outside National Medical College Hospital, where activists from Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, as well as local BNP and Jubo Dal units, gathered.

Additional police were deployed to the area, and law enforcement agencies remained on high alert to prevent further escalation.
