Chief Adviser calls for transforming post offices into community-based economic hubs
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has called for transforming post offices into community-based economic hubs, offering services such as e-commerce support, digital financial facilities, transportation and marketing for small entrepreneurs, and information exchange for farmers and marginalised groups.
In his message on the occasion of World Post Day on Wednesday, October 8, Professor Yunus congratulated the postal department. The day will be observed in Bangladesh, along with the rest of the world, on Thursday, October 9.
Professor Yunus said the postal service is not only a government utility but also one of the oldest and most trusted social institutions in society. With its extensive network, post offices have the capacity to reach even the most marginalised people. In the current context, he stressed the need to transform post offices from mere communication centres into effective platforms for development and economic inclusion.
The interim government is working to modernise and integrate the postal service into the mainstream of social and economic activities. Expressing optimism, Professor Yunus noted that the department will become an effective one-stop centre for local economies, rather than being limited to service delivery. He also sought the cooperation of postal officials and citizens in this transformative journey.
