Chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has extended greetings to people in Bangladesh and abroad, as well as to people across the world, on the occasion of the English New Year 2026.

In a message issued on Wednesday, December 31, he said the New Year should further strengthen harmony, goodwill and fraternity, and bring happiness, peace and prosperity to everyone.

He said the New Year symbolises new dreams, hopes and possibilities, adding that its arrival inspires people to move forward towards a better future, leaving behind past sorrows.

Expressing hope for building a democratic Bangladesh, the chief adviser said the New Year would reinforce the resolve to work with full dedication for public welfare, driven by patriotism. He added that by facing all challenges together, the nation would strive to build an equitable, just and discrimination-free Bangladesh.

Referring to the changed context following the July mass uprising, he said the New Year would be highly significant for national life. He expressed hope that the journey towards democratic transition, through reforms of a flawed state system, would reach completion in the New Year with the holding of a national election and a referendum on the implementation order of the July Charter.

He said thwarting all conspiracies and successfully holding the election and referendum to accelerate the country’s democratic progress remains the nation’s greatest expectation in the New Year.
