Chief Adviser monitors nationwide polling from Police HQ control room

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Thursday (February 12) monitored the nationwide voting situation during the 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum from a control room set up at Police Headquarters.

He observed live feeds and reports from different parts of the country. Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam were present at the time.

Voting in 299 parliamentary constituencies began at 7:30am, with voters seen heading to polling centres from early morning. Balloting is scheduled to continue until 4:30pm.

A total of 42,779 polling centres have been set up across the country, with 247,482 voting booths established to facilitate the voting process. Fifty political parties are participating in the election.

In total, 2,028 candidates are contesting the polls, including 1,755 nominated by political parties and 273 independents. Among them are 83 women candidates—63 from political parties and 20 independents.

A total of 127,711,893 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in 299 constituencies. Of them, 64,825,361 are male, 62,885,200 female and 1,232 are registered as third-gender voters.

The Election Commission (EC) cancelled polling in Sherpur-3 following the death of a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate. As a result, voting is being held simultaneously in the remaining 299 constituencies.
