Chief Adviser urges ‘yes’ vote in referendum
Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus has urged people across the country to vote ‘yes’ in the upcoming referendum to implement the July Charter.
He made the call in a video message on Monday, December 22, at 4:00pm, after inaugurating the ‘Voter vehicle’ campaign at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad.
According to organisers, the campaign has been launched to raise awareness and motivate voters ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election and referendum scheduled for 2026. As part of the initiative, the vehicle will travel across all 64 districts and more than 300 upazilas to encourage voter participation.
Information and Broadcasting Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and Senior Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, among others, were present at the inauguration.
In his message, the chief adviser said the message of democracy must reach every household. He said the right to vote is not a favour but a constitutional right of citizens, adding that the upcoming election and referendum will determine the future direction of the country.
He also said participation, not apathy, strengthens democracy, assuring that the government will ensure a free and inclusive environment. Calling for a ‘yes’ vote for the July Charter, he said a victory in the referendum would set the country’s long-term course.
