Chief Adviser urges ‘Yes’ vote in referendum
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has urged voters to cast a ‘Yes’ vote in the referendum scheduled to be held alongside the parliamentary election on February 12.
He made the appeal in a video address to the nation on Monday, January 19.
He said the key to building a new Bangladesh now lies in the hands of the people. Casting a ‘Yes’ vote will open the door to a new Bangladesh. He urged voters to mark ‘Yes’ themselves, encourage acquaintances to do the same, and bring them to polling centers to vote. “Change the country. Let us all seize this opportunity to rebuild the nation,” he said.
In his address, the Chief Adviser also described the July mass uprising as an extraordinary achievement in the nation’s history, unexpectedly creating opportunities to establish democracy, justice, and human rights. He said several reforms had already been implemented, and a July Charter had been formulated based on consensus among all political parties for deeper and more far-reaching reforms. Public consent is required to implement the charter, which is why the referendum is being held. He urged citizens to participate and give their consent.
