The office of the Chief Adviser has sent an official letter to the Election Commission, instructing it to complete all necessary preparations to hold the next national parliamentary elections before the start of Ramadan in February 2026.

Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, confirmed that the letter was sent to the Chief Election Commissioner on Wednesday, August 6.

In the letter, Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser, M Siraj Uddin Miah, urged the Election Commission to take the necessary steps to ensure a free, fair, peaceful, and festive national election within the mentioned timeframe.

This move follows the Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus’s announcement during his address to the nation on August 5, marking the anniversary of the July Uprising. In that speech, he stated that the EC would be officially instructed to arrange the national election before Ramadan begins next year. The letter sent today is a continuation of that commitment.

Referring to the national address, the letter emphasizes the Chief Adviser’s call for immediate institutional and logistical preparations for the election. Given that citizens were denied the right to vote over the past 15 years, the Chief Adviser has stressed the need to make the upcoming election a truly joyful and memorable celebration of democracy.

The letter highlights Dr. Yunus’s aspiration for an election that is marked by joy, peace, discipline, high voter turnout, and mutual respect. It also underlines the importance of using appropriate technology and reiterates the government's firm commitment to providing full support in organizing a credible, free, peaceful, and festive election.

Finally, based on the Chief Adviser’s declaration, the Principal Secretary requested the Election Commission to initiate the necessary actions to organize the national election within the specified timeline.
