Four people, including a child, died after entering an abandoned septic tank in Madhupur upazila of Tangail.

The incident took place in Telki village on Saturday morning (June 20), confirmed Madhupur Fire Service Sub-Station Officer Lavlu Tarafder.

The deceased were identified as Gabriel Nokrek, 45, Ratan Nokrek, 25, Bablu Hadima, 35 and Neymar Mrong, 10. They were all residents of Jolai village in the upazila and members of the local small ethnic community.

Fire service officials said the tragedy began when a goat kid fell into the unused septic tank. A child reportedly entered the tank to rescue it but died due to oxygen shortage inside. Subsequently, three more family members entered the tank one after another in an attempt to save them, all of whom also lost their lives.

The septic tank was approximately 9–10 feet deep, officials added.

Fire service personnel later recovered the bodies and handed them over to police.

Authorities said among the deceased were a father and son, while the other two were relatives.
