An infant suffering from measles and pneumonia has died at a hospital in Shyamoli of Dhaka, prompting allegations of negligence by doctors and nurses.

The child dies on Friday night (May 15) at the Bangladesh Shishu Hospital, according to family members of the deceased.

Relatives alleged that the 9-month-old child died due to negligence by on-duty medical staff. They said the infant had been admitted to the hospital three days earlier after developing measles symptoms and called for a thorough investigation and strict action against those responsible.

However, hospital authorities rejected the allegations, terming them baseless.

Resident Medical Officer Dr. Asif Hannan said the child was suffering from both measles and pneumonia and was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) as the condition deteriorated.

He added that the hospital provided the best possible treatment and assured that appropriate action would be taken if any negligence is proven in an investigation.
