Child domestic worker's body recovered from BGB officer's house

Police have recovered the hanging body of a child domestic worker named Bibi Halima, 11, from the toilet of BGB Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam's house.

Police said that Halima was found hanging from the toilet of the flat on the third floor of the fifth floor building of the BGB headquarters' officers' quarters in the capital's New Market area, with her headscarf tied to the shower pipe. After the legal process, the body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy in the evening.

New Market Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Maruf Hasan said that on receiving information, the police went to the spot and broke the bathroom door lock and recovered the body at around 3pm on Monday (February 23). No one was home at the time of the incident. The door of the house was open, but the bathroom door was found locked from inside.

He said that Shariful's wife is a doctor. Bibi Halima had been working as a domestic worker in their house for about six months.

Shariful Islam said that he and his wife were at work. His runner (assistant) Md. Salauddin first entered the house with the market and found the toilet door locked from the inside. Later, when Salauddin called, he came to the house. Shariful Islam claimed that when he came home, he also found the toilet door locked from the inside. Later, when he informed the police, they reached the spot and recovered the body of the domestic worker hanging.

He said, the girl was always cheerful, we had sehri together. When we left the house in the morning, the girl was still asleep, my daughter was also asleep at that time.
