Child drowns in pond at Cox's Bazar

A seven-year-old girl named Fahia has died after drowning in a pond at her grandfather's house in Pekua, Cox's Bazar. The incident took place on Friday morning, April 17, in the Purba Baimkhyali area of Sadar union under the upazila.

The deceased, Fahia, was the daughter of Mohammad Shafi, a resident of Faitong union in Chakaria upazila. She lived at her grandfather's house and studied at the Purba Baimkhyali Sultania Nizamia Madrasa.

Family sources said Fahia went out to play near her grandfather's house around 8:00 am on Friday and fell into a pond behind the house unnoticed. After some time, when family members could not find her, they began searching. She was later recovered from the pond. Fahia was rushed to Pekua Upazila Health Complex in critical condition, where the duty doctor declared her dead.

Pekua Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khairul Alam confirmed the incident. He said the body has been handed over to the family. An unnatural death case has been registered in this connection.
