A six-year-old boy was killed in Sandwip on Wednesday morning, allegedly as a result of a family dispute. The accused, Jahangir Alam, a neighbour of the victim, has been taken into police custody.

The incident occurred around 11:00am at Pelishar Bazar in Ward 5 of Magdhara Union. The victim, Ali Hossain, was a first-grade student at Basharul Ulum Madrasa and the son of local resident Abu Taher.

Eyewitnesses reported that Jahangir Alam attacked the child while he was returning home from madrasa. The boy sustained severe head injuries, with blood reportedly seen coming from his mouth and ears.

Ali Hossain was rushed to Sandwip Medical Center, where doctors recommended immediate transfer to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. However, the child died while crossing the Sandwip Channel en route to the hospital.

Following the incident, local residents apprehended Jahangir Alam and handed him over to the police. Officer-in-Charge AKM Shafiqul Alam Chowdhury of Sandwip Police Station confirmed the arrest and stated that an investigation is underway.

“The accused has been detained. We are conducting a thorough investigation, and appropriate legal action will be taken,” said OC Chowdhury.
