Child Muntaha's treatment path opens, ailing Shariful also gets visa

Two patients from Rajshahi had faced uncertainty in obtaining Indian visas for urgent medical treatment, but the Indian Assistant High Commission in Rajshahi stepped in to resolve the issue swiftly upon learning of their conditions. This has brought relief to the two families who were anxious about their treatment.

Six-year-old Muntaha Sidratul, daughter of Mahatab Ali Mehedi from Mathurapur village in Tanore upazila, suffers from a complex brain condition. Following specialist advice, the child needed to be taken to India urgently for advanced treatment. However, visa complications had left her father worried about whether he could get her treatment started in time.

On Thursday, August 27, Mahatab went to the Indian Assistant High Commissioner's office at House 316, Padma Residential Area in the city as a last resort. He met with Assistant High Commissioner Manoj Kumar and explained his daughter's medical condition and the urgency of treatment. Upon learning of the situation, the Assistant High Commissioner took humanitarian considerations into account and quickly arranged the visa.

Mahatab Ali Mehedi expressed gratitude to the Indian Assistant High Commissioner for the swift assistance, saying they were in extreme anxiety over their daughter's treatment, and the visa complication had created uncertainty about whether they could get her treated in time.

On the same day, Shariful Islam, a resident of Miyapur in Rajpara police station, also went to the Assistant High Commission to obtain an Indian visa for treatment of his long-standing abdominal issues. After falling seriously ill the previous evening with severe gastric pain, he obtained the Assistant High Commissioner's contact number from a neighbour. Following contact, he visited the office on Thursday and his matter was promptly considered, with visa arrangements made.

Shariful Islam said he was in great pain with severe abdominal distress on Wednesday evening. After contacting the number provided by his neighbour, he received immediate assistance. He expressed gratitude to those concerned for facilitating his travel to India for treatment.

This initiative to expedite visa arrangements, prioritising the medical needs of the two patients, has been seen as a positive example of humanitarian assistance in Rajshahi. The cooperation has also eased the path for timely treatment for the two families who were worried about medical care due to visa complications.
