Child ‘raped’ in Magura is alive: Police

The 8-year-old child ‘raped’ in Magura is alive, said Magura Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Md Mirajul Islam. He informed the media about this on Friday afternoon. Earlier, news spread on social media that ‘the child in Magura has died’.

Mirajul Islam said, we are regularly checking on the child’s medical condition. She is still unconscious. She has been kept in the Children’s Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

He also said that the child’s cousin Sajib Sheikh (18) and his father Hitu Sheikh (47) have been arrested in this incident. Both of them are being questioned. Sajib’s words have been found to be quite incoherent.

It is alleged that the child was raped on Thursday while visiting her sister’s house. The child was first seen lying unconscious on the floor of the house. Later, the child was taken to the 250-bed Sadar Hospital in Magura. Later, as her condition deteriorated, she was sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. From there, the child was sent to Dhaka on Friday morning for better treatment.

The child's mother said that someone raped her after finding her alone in the house at her sister's house. Since she was alone at home at that time and the girl has not yet regained consciousness, it is not possible to say exactly who raped her.

Meanwhile, the devotees have taken out a protest march demanding punishment for those involved in the rape. They protested on various roads in Magura city after Friday prayers.
