Child rape-murder: accused’s house turns into ruins after two consecutive days of vandalism

Angry people have carried out attacks and extensive vandalism for two consecutive days on the house of main accused Mostafa Pramanik over the rape and murder of a 10-year-old child in Dogachi union of Pabna Sadar upazila. As a result various parts of the two-storey building have been damaged and the entire house has almost turned into ruins.

Thousands of people from various areas started gathering in front of Mostafa Pramanik’s house from the morning on Saturday (September 19). At one stage they started vandalising various parts of the building. The intensity of vandalism also increased with the day. Various parts including bricks and window grills of the building were removed. Vandalism was continuing there till 4:30pm.

Earlier on Friday after Jumma prayer hundreds of people carried out an attack on Mostafa’s house taking out a procession. They vandalised the walls, doors, window grills and furniture of the house. Later although police were deployed to control the situation police had to leave the spot at one stage to handle the law and order situation.

Several of the agitated people who took part in the vandalism said they want justice for the brutal incident that happened with the child. Local UP member Abdur Rauf Sohel said not only locals, many from distant places are also coming there and taking part in the vandalism. As a result law enforcement agencies are having a hard time controlling the situation.

Officer-in-charge of Pabna Sadar thana Mo Torikul Islam said police have been deployed at the spot to control the situation. Police had earlier shifted important goods of the accused’s house to a safe place to avoid damage and unpleasant incidents.

Police and local sources said the child went missing after going for shopping on the evening of September 9. After searching in various places her body was recovered in a sack from an abandoned ditch on the morning of September 16.

In investigation police came to know that main accused Mostafa Pramanik and his tenant Yasin Ali, 21, lured the child and took her to a room behind a grocery shop. According to police investigation she was tortured there and killed by strangulation. Later the body was put in a sack and first kept under a cot and later thrown into a ditch.

Mostafa Pramanik and Yasin Ali have been arrested in this incident. Police have said evidence of involvement with the incident has been found in the information and photos recovered from the mobile phones of the accused. The process of submitting charge sheet against them quickly is underway.
