Child rescued from tube-well pit in Raozan, declared dead at hospital
A three-year-old child who fell into a deep tube-well pit in Raozan, Chattogram, was rescued by the Fire Service but was later declared dead at hospital.
Deputy Assistant Director of Agrabad Fire Service Abdul Mannan said the child, Muhammad Mezbah, was pulled out of the pit around 8:15 pm and taken to hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The incident occurred around 4:30 pm in South Joynagar Barua Para of Ward No 9 under Kadalpur Union in Rauzan upazila, where the child went missing after falling into a deep tube-well pit.
Fire Service official Abdul Mannan said the child’s position was identified about 30 feet below ground using a search vision camera. He was then rescued and rushed to hospital.
Raozan Fire Service team leader Md Ali said the child was unconscious when recovered.
Mezbah was the son of local day labourer Saiful Islam. The child’s mother, Rasheda Begum, said the pit had been dug nearly three years ago for a government project tube-well near their house. Although attempts were made to fill it with straw and debris, it was never properly sealed. She said she did not realise when her son, who had been playing nearby, fell into the pit, and later found him inside after hearing cries.
Officer-in-charge of Raozan Police Station Sajedul Islam Palash said preliminary information suggests the pit was part of work under a government project.
