A seven-year-old madrasa student allegedly suffered a fractured bone near his left elbow after being beaten by an assistant teacher at Char Tilli Darul Ulum Madrasa and Orphanage in Saturia upazila of Manikganj.

The child's family also claimed that the teacher forced a pen into the boy's mouth to stop him from crying.

The incident reportedly took place on July 11.

The victim's father has since filed a written complaint with Saturia Police Station against assistant teacher Md. Abdullah and the madrasa's principal Md. Omar Faruk.

According to the complaint, the child returned home in tears on the morning of the incident, saying he no longer wanted to attend the madrasa. His family later noticed swelling on his left arm, bruising and cane marks on his back. An X-ray conducted at a diagnostic centre in Manikganj confirmed a fracture near the elbow.

The child said that he was repeatedly beaten with a cane for failing to recite his lessons properly. He also claimed the teacher slapped him and forced him to keep a pen in his mouth for around 20 to 25 minutes while threatening further punishment if he dropped it.

The boy's father said the incident has left his son deeply traumatized, adding that he now becomes frightened whenever the madrasa or the teacher's name is mentioned.

Assistant teacher Md. Abdullah admitted to hitting the student with a cane, saying he had struck him twice for being inattentive in class but was unaware the blows had caused a fracture. He said he later acknowledged his mistake after learning of the injury.

Principal Md. Omar Faruk described the incident as unacceptable, saying the accused teacher had admitted wrongdoing and that disciplinary action would be taken.

Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Saturia Police Station, said, "Police have visited the scene after receiving the complaint and advised the family to file a formal case."

"Legal action would be taken in accordance with the law," he added.
