China is reportedly preparing to supply new air defence systems to Iran, a move that could further heighten tensions in the Middle East, according to a US intelligence assessment cited by CNN.

Reuters, citing multiple sources familiar with recent intelligence reviews, reported that the potential transfer could take place in the coming weeks.

According to the reports, the equipment may include shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missile systems capable of targeting low-flying aircraft and helicopters, potentially altering battlefield dynamics.

Officials also suggested the transfer may be routed through third countries to conceal its origin.

Neither the US State Department, the White House, nor the Chinese Embassy in Washington has issued any official comment on the reports so far.

The development comes as efforts are underway for high-level talks in Islamabad aimed at de-escalating the ongoing six-week conflict in the region.

Analysts say the timing of the reports could complicate diplomatic efforts, potentially affecting regional stability and the balance of power. If confirmed, the alleged transfer would signal deeper military ties between China and Iran and could further strain China’s relations with Western nations, particularly the United States.

Experts also warn that such developments could prolong or intensify the ongoing conflict in the region.
