China reaffirms support for Bangladesh's defence modernisation
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam at the latter's office at the Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday, September 3, according to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on further strengthening existing military and defence cooperation between Bangladesh and China. Discussions focused on advanced professional training for members of the armed forces of the two countries, military education exchange, and enhancing technical capabilities .
Both sides expressed optimism that increased mutual experience sharing and training cooperation would further advance bilateral defence relations in tackling modern military challenges.
The defence adviser recalled the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and China, the strategic partnership, and China's cooperation in Bangladesh's development journey, expressing hope that this cooperation would continue to grow in the future.
The Chinese Ambassador reaffirmed his country's commitment to continued cooperation and support in the modernisation of Bangladesh's defence sector.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed determination to expand defence cooperation in areas of mutual interest and to elevate Bangladesh-China friendly relations to a new height.
