The mother of jailed Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote spokesperson Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari died on Thursday (September 10) without fulfilling her final wish to see her son, despite a family request for his temporary release on parole as her health deteriorated.

Sandhya Rani Dhar died at 9:34am at Sri Sri Pundarik Dham Ashram in Hathazari, Chattogram, two days after expressing a desire to spend her final days there.

Chinmoy Krishna Das had also stayed at the ashram for an extended period.

She had recently been undergoing treatment at Chattogram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital, where tests reportedly detected cancer. However, she was uncomfortable staying in hospital and wanted to return to Pundarik Dham, according to her family.

Her son Anjan Kumar Dhar confirmed her death, saying Chinmoy had been unable to see his mother while in jail. Another family member, Ranjan Kumar Dhar, said the body would be taken to Hathazari Upazila Health Complex for a medical certificate before the family seeks parole for Chinmoy. Her funeral is expected to be held at Pundarik Dham.

Family members said Sandhya Rani had been under severe emotional strain over her son’s prolonged detention, repeated bail hearings and continued failure to secure his release. They said she had remained hopeful about his latest bail hearing, but became increasingly distressed after it did not bring the expected outcome.

The family also claimed she suffered a stroke amid the prolonged stress and later developed cardiac complications while receiving treatment. A request for Chinmoy’s parole release to allow him to see his seriously ill mother was reportedly rejected.
