Chinmoy Krishna Das granted bail in penal code case

A court in Chattogram has granted bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of the Sammilito Sanatani Jagaran Jote, in a case filed under the Penal Code.

Judicial Magistrate Md. Shakhawat Hossain passed the order on Thursday (April 16), according to court officials.

Court bench assistant Mizanur Rahman said Chinmoy Krishna Das, who was in custody after being shown arrested following an investigation report submitted by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), was granted bail after a hearing on his petition.

The case was filed in 2023 and named six accused, including Chinmoy Krishna Das. The complainant is former minister Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin.

The development comes against the backdrop of earlier tensions surrounding his legal proceedings. On November 26, 2024, clashes erupted following a separate sedition case linked to allegations of disrespect to the national flag, during which lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was killed.

Multiple cases were later filed over the violence, including allegations of attacks on lawyers, police and court premises, as well as cocktail explosions. Police have already submitted a charge sheet in the murder case, where witness testimony is currently underway.
