Chittagong College students stage sit-in to press five-point demands
Students of Chittagong College organized a sit-in protest on Sunday, demanding action on five key issues. Hundreds of students of the college participated in the sit-in program under the banner of Chittagong College’s anti-discrimination student movement in the morning.
Meanwhile, the students demanded to officially end student politics, to rename a special facility of the college after Shaheed Wasim, renovation of the hall, taking disciplinary action against the teachers and students involved in the misdeeds of the fallen dictatorship and giving appropriate compensation to the students who were abused at various times in the college.
Ibn Hossain Ziyad, coordinator of the Chittagong College Branch of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said that the sacrifice of the martyrs strengthens our commitment and their ideals guide us.
He further said, we are striving for a safe, neutral and political-free campus, where a fair learning environment will be maintained and the quality of education will be improved - this is our main goal. The students collectively declared the Chittagong college campus free of politics. But in recent times the activities of various student organizations on the campus are threatening our rights and security, which we find totally unacceptable. We raised five demands. This program is to implement our demands.
Earlier on Friday (September 27) afternoon in front of the administration building of Chittagong College, the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement held a press conference on the contemporary issues of the college. During the time, they pressed five points, including banning student politics in Chittagong College.
