Chuadanga ICT officer's body found hanging in rented flat
Police have recovered the hanging body of an ICT assistant programmer from a rented flat in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga on Friday morning (June 19).
The deceased, Mahmudur Rahman, 35, was the son of Ataur Rahman of Kabari Road in Chuadanga town.
His body was found hanging from a ceiling fan at a flat in the Bosutipara area of Jibannagar town around 11:00am. He had been working as an ICT officer in Jibannagar upazila for the past three years.
According to family members and local residents, Mahmudur Rahman is survived by a three-year-old son, while his wife, Iti Khatun, is five months pregnant. Although relatives acknowledged that the couple occasionally had disagreements over family matters, they said there had been no known dispute between them on the night before the incident.
Iti Khatun, wife of Rahman, said she had left home in the morning to buy juice for their child and returned to find the door locked. After repeated knocking went unanswered, neighbours helped break the door open, where Rahman was found hanging.
Ataur Rahman, the victim’s father, said Mahmudur Rahman had frequent disagreements with his wife. He spoke to his mother by phone around 8:30 am on Friday and inquired about the family before abruptly ending the call. Shortly afterwards, the family received news of his death.
Police and local administration officials, including Jibannagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ashraful Alam Rasel and Officer-in-Charge (OC) Solaiman Sheikh, visited the scene.
Police said preliminary findings suggest possible suicide, potentially linked to family disputes, though the exact cause will be confirmed after investigation.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and legal procedures are underway, the added.
