CID initiates probe into cocktail explosion in Chapainawabganj
A team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has reached the scene of a fatal explosion in Chapainawabganj to collect evidence after two people were killed while allegedly making crude explosives.
The development was confirmed by Superintendent of Police Gautam Kumar Biswas.
The incident took place around 5:00am in Charbagdanga Union under Sadar upazila on Saturday (February 14).
According to witnesses, the explosion took place while cocktails were being prepared, killing two people on the spot. The blast reportedly severed their wrists and caused severe facial burns.
Three others were critically injured and were first taken to Chapainawabganj Modern Sadar Hospital. They were later transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment as their condition deteriorated.
Rajshahi Range DIG Mohammad Shahjahan said preliminary findings suggest cocktails were being manufactured at the site when one or more devices exploded. "CID officials are collecting evidence and that the deceased are believed to be local residents. Efforts are under way to confirm their identities," he added.
Responding to a question about possible political links, the DIG said, “A criminal has no identity. A criminal is a criminal.”
