CID inspector slapped inside police station, Krishak Dal leader arrested

Police have arrested district Krishak Dal member secretary Md Mojibur Rahman Mojib, 56, over allegations of abusing, slapping and threatening to kill a CID inspector inside Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station. CID Inspector Nawabur Rahman filed a case with Kotwali Police Station on Sunday night, August 9, naming Mojib and two unidentified individuals as accused.

According to the case statement, CID Inspector Nawabur Rahman went to Kotwali Police Station around 8:30pm on Sunday to collect documents of a murder case and discuss with the previous investigation officer. Around 9:38pm, as he approached the OC's room, a person asked him where the OC was. Nawabur identified himself as a CID official and said he had come to the station for investigation work and did not know the OC's whereabouts.

It is alleged that upon hearing this, the person started speaking to Nawabur Rahman in obscene language. When he protested, Mojibur Rahman, instigated by two others present, slapped him hard on the right cheek.

The case statement said that during the incident, SI Md Manik Rana, SI Md Mominur Rahman and Constable Md Rafiqul Islam, who were in the duty officer's room, along with other police members, went to the spot and tried to control the situation. When they informed the accused of Nawabur Rahman's identity, the accused became more agitated and made obscene and defamatory remarks targeting him and the police family, and issued death threats, according to the complaint.

Later, to control the situation, the Kotwali Police Station OC ordered Mojibur Rahman to be kept in police custody. During interrogation, he revealed his name and address. The two others with him managed to leave the scene, the case statement added.

CID Inspector Nawabur Rahman said he informed his senior officers after the incident. After receiving medical treatment and consulting with authorities, he filed the case. The original copies of medical documents and a pen drive containing video footage of the incident have also been submitted.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Noornabi said an unfortunate incident occurred with a CID inspector while on duty at the station. The officer filed a case over the incident. Following the case, the accused was shown arrested that night.
