City Corporations launch massive cleanup drive to remove sacrificial waste across capital
The two city corporations of the capital have launched an extensive cleanup operation across Dhaka following Eid-ul-Azha sacrifices, with thousands of sanitation workers deployed to ensure the swift removal of sacrificial waste from city streets and neighbourhoods.
From Thursday afternoon (May 28), sanitation crews of Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation were seen collecting animal waste from different parts of the capital, including Mirpur, Shantinagar, Dhanmondi and Lalbagh.
Using pickup vans, handcarts and dumping trucks, workers have been transporting sacrificial waste to designated disposal sites in an effort to prevent foul odour, environmental pollution and public inconvenience.
According to city corporation officials, authorities are aiming to remove 100 per cent of sacrificial waste within the stipulated timeframe to keep the capital clean during the Eid holidays. Nearly 40,000 sanitation workers have been deployed for the operation, while senior officials are supervising activities in different zones of the city.
Residents in several neighbourhoods said waste removal efforts appeared significantly faster and more coordinated this year compared to previous Eid seasons, reducing public suffering and helping restore normal conditions more quickly.
Authorities have also urged residents to cooperate with sanitation teams by disposing of waste at designated collection points to ensure smooth and timely cleanup operations across the city.
