Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed has urged journalists to maintain objectivity and accuracy when reporting on law, justice, and constitutional matters.

Addressing the unveiling ceremony of the Supreme Court Reporters Forum’s (SRF) first souvenir, Jagoron, at his office on Wednesday, the Chief Justice highlighted the complexity of covering judicial affairs and emphasized the need for careful verification of information by the media.

“Reporting on law and justice is a challenging task. Since taking charge nearly a year ago, I have noticed no deviation from objectivity in media reports on the judiciary. Nevertheless, journalists must remain vigilant in ensuring impartiality,” he said.

Dr Ahmed commended SRF members for their dedication, noting their regular presence in courtrooms and prompt dissemination of news. He called on the media to support the establishment of an independent judiciary and appealed for collective efforts to uphold the judiciary’s dignity and reputation.

SRF President Masudur Rahman praised the Chief Justice’s initiatives to strengthen the judiciary, most of which have been implemented. He also called for the establishment of a separate secretariat for the judiciary to further enhance its efficiency.

Earlier, the newly formed SRF committee presented flowers to the Chief Justice, with General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Dalim introducing the members.

Other attendees included SRF Vice President Kabir Hossain, former General Secretary Golam Rabbani, Joint Secretary Afzal Hossain, Treasurer Kamrul Islam Fakir, and other members.
