CKDU hospital extortion case: Ex-Jubo Dal leader among 7 arrested
Members of law enforcement have arrested a former leader of Jubo Dal along with six associates in connection with an extortion case involving a kidney hospital in the capital.
The arrests were confirmed by Wing Commander MZM Intekhab Chowdhury of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday morning. He said the main accused, Moyeen Uddin Moyeen, was detained alongside a total of seven individuals. Legal proceedings are currently under way.
The case centres on alleged extortion attempts targeting the Centre for Kidney Diseases and Urology Hospital, located in Shyamoli.
According to police, the hospital’s OT in-charge, Abu Hanif, filed a case on April 11 at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, naming Moyeen as the prime accused.
The complaint alleges that Moyeen and his associates had been demanding Tk 500,000 over an extended period. When the demand was refused, they reportedly issued threats to the complainant.
In a specific incident on the morning of April 10, the accused allegedly went to the complainant’s residence in Shyamoli and demanded immediate payment. When the complainant’s wife refused, they are said to have created a disturbance and issued threats of harm.
The situation escalated when the complainant contacted his brother to come to the scene. Later, the accused allegedly gathered a group of 50–60 individuals in front of the hospital, shouting slogans, using abusive language, and attempting to create unrest in the area.
Authorities said further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
