Claim of BNP opposes reform false, misleading: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has dismissed claims that the party opposes reforms, calling such statements false and misleading.
Speaking at a discussion programme marking Teliapara Day in Habiganj on Saturday (April 4), he said, “BNP not only supports reforms but will ensure their implementation.”
He also emphasised the significance of the Liberation Waring attempts to belittle the nation’s historic struggle.
Reflecting on the 2024 uprising, Fakhrul described the student and public movements against the “fascist Sheikh Hasina government” as a proud chapter in Bangladesh’s history, asserting that BNP embraces the legacy of these July protests.
On party discipline, he cited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman: “An empty cowshed is better than a corrupt cow,” stressing that there is no place for wrongdoing within the party.
Fakhrul also urged local MPs to take swift measures to improve the living standards of neglected tea workers.
The event was attended by Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ahmed Azam Khan, State Minister Ishrak Hossain, Jatiya Sangsad Whip G K Gous, International Crimes Tribunal Prosecutor Aminul Islam, and other local officials and representatives.
On the programme, speakers highlighted Teliapara Tea Garden as a key historical site of the Liberation War and called for its preservation along with the establishment of a dedicated museum for freedom fighters.
