Clash between Jamaat-BNP leaves 6 injured in Chuadanga
A clash occurred between leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP in Ujjalpur village under Begumpur union in Darshana Thana, falling under the Chuadanga-2 constituency. At least six people from both sides were injured in the clash. During the confrontation, election offices of both parties were vandalised.
The clash occurred around 9pm on Friday, February 6. Tension spread in the area following the incident, and police quickly arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control.
Sources from Jamaat-e-Islami stated that two of their injured are Mehedi Hasan, aged 32, Secretary of Darshana Municipality Ward No. 1 Jamaat, and Hasan Tarek, aged 27, Secretary of Darshana Municipality Workers' Welfare. They received primary treatment at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital at night.
On the other hand, the BNP side reported that three of their supporters were injured. They are local residents Mujibur Rahman, Junayed Hossain, and Ashik.
Begumpur Union Jamaat Ameer Mosharraf Hossain alleged that a BNP procession came in front of the Ujjalpur Jamaat election office at night and created disorder. When they protested, BNP leaders and activists launched an attack, beating two of their leaders. He also claimed the election office was vandalised. However, he denied allegations of vandalising the BNP office.
In contrast, Darshana Thana BNP office secretary Aslam Hossain said a peaceful procession was held under his leadership. At that time, some Jamaat leaders and workers made objectionable remarks towards them, creating tension. He claimed three of their supporters were injured and the BNP's Ujjalpur election office was vandalised. He denied allegations of vandalising Jamaat's office or assault.
Dr. Al Imran Jewel from the emergency department of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital said two injured Jamaat leaders came to the hospital around midnight. One had a head injury and the other had an injury below the eye. They left the hospital after receiving primary treatment.
Acting Officer-in-Charge of Darshana Thana Police, Md. Mehedi Hasan, said a chase and counter-chase incident occurred between Jamaat and BNP leaders and activists. Information was received that two Jamaat members and one BNP supporter were injured. A broken chair was found at the Jamaat's Ujjalpur election office at the scene. However, no party has filed a written complaint so far.
