At least 10 people were injured in a clash between supporters of independent candidate Hasan Mamun and BNP alliance candidate and Gano Odhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur in Patuakhali-3 (Galachipa–Dashmina) constituency.

The clash took place around 11:00 pm on Saturday night in front of Chatra Government Primary School in Galachipa upazila.

Police and local sources said supporters of Hasan Mamun and Nurul Haque Nur brought out separate processions in Galachipa upazila. When the two processions reached the area in front of Chatra Government Primary School, an argument broke out, which later escalated into a clash.

Those injured include Mahabul (24), Maruf (21), Ajit (24), Wajib (24), Aliul Islam Titu (28) and Bayezid (24), among others. Supporters of the Horse symbol candidate—Maruf Gazi (24), Wajib Howlader (24) and Sadek (22)—were admitted to Galachipa Upazila Health Complex. Critically injured Mahabul (24) was referred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal. Others received primary treatment.

Coordinator of Nurul Haque Nur’s election campaign committee and central president of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, Md Abu Nayeem, alleged that supporters of Hasan Mamun provoked violence by chanting slogans targeting supporters of the Truck symbol and then launched an attack, leaving several injured.

On the other hand, Hasan Mamun supporter Md Maruf (23) claimed that while returning home after a procession chanting slogans for the Horse symbol from the Dakuwa election office, supporters of the Truck symbol blocked their path and attacked them with sticks.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Galachipa Police Station, Md Jillur Rahman, said clashes had occurred between the two groups. “Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The situation is now normal,” he said.
