Clash between two factions of JnU Chhatra Dal, 4 injured
A clash has occurred between two factions of the JnU (Jagannath University) unit Chhatra Dal. At least four students were injured in the incident.
The chase and counter-chase, which began around 1:30pm on Sunday, September 20, in the Victoria Park area adjacent to the campus, spread up to the university campus.
The injured are Madud, a student of the Economics Department (2025-26 academic year), Asif of the English Department (2024-25 academic year) and Imon of the Public Administration Department (2023-24 academic year).
Two of them were rescued and taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital for treatment.
Eyewitness students said the incident originated in front of a tea shop adjacent to Victoria Park. At one point, it spread to the Kathaltala area of the campus, where an attack was seen being carried out with rods and pipes.
It was primarily learned that the clash originated over "taunting" remarks directed at Shamsul Arefin, member secretary of the unit Chhatra Dal.
It was learned that on the night of September 19, joint convener of the unit Chhatra Dal Nahian Bin Anik made a Facebook post involving member secretary Shamsul Arefin. Tension had been prevailing in phases between the followers of Nahian Bin Anik and Shamsul Arefin on the campus centring that post.
Joint convener of the unit Chhatra Dal Nahian Bin Anik said some students with Shamsul Arefin and outsiders launched a sudden attack on them. They had also threatened to beat them last night, and the matter was reported to the university administration. But today (Sunday), while they were drinking tea beside the gate of Victoria Park, a sudden attack was carried out with rods and pipes.
University Proctor Professor Dr Azam Khan said there was a clash between the two sides. "We have called the police, and the situation is now calm. No one was notably injured; perhaps four were minor injuries."
