Two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have clashed over the party’s founding anniversary celebration programme in Sitakunda of Chattogram. The two sides got involved in a clash with sticks in the Dakshin Bypass area of Sitakunda on Tuesday afternoon. Incidents of brickbat throwing also took place at that time. Several people from both sides were injured in this.

The clash took place between the followers of Aslam Chowdhury, who lost his membership of parliament for being a loan defaulter, and the followers of Kazi Salauddin, former joint convener of North District BNP.

After the news of the clash spread, Salauddin’s followers took position on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Banshbaria area. As a result, vehicular movement on that road came to a halt.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sitakunda Police Station Mohinul Islam said tension and jostling took place between the two sides over observing the founding anniversary programme. Later one side went to Banshbaria and took position. Police made them understand and removed them from there.
