Clash between two villages in Sylhet after miking, 30 injured

Kabir Hossen Dhala Mia, chairman of Lamakazi Union Parishad, is among at least 30 people injured in repeated clashes between residents of two villages after gathering people by announcement on mosque mike over land dispute in Bishwanath upazila of Sylhet. The clash that continued for about one hour took place at Bhurki Bazar area between residents of Bhurki and Ishabpur villages of Lamakazi Union around 2pm on Sunday (September 27).

Several of the injured have been admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital as their condition is serious.

Among the injured are Lamakazi Union Parishad chairman Kabir Hossen Dhala Mia, Masuk Mia, Kabir Mia, Mizanur Rahman, Atikur Rahman, Abdul Wahid Titan, Jakir Ahmed, Haji Sofir Ali, Taj Mia, Joni Ahmed, Joynal Mia, Koysor Mia, Jamil Mia, Saidi Uddin and Alim Uddin.

Police and local sources said long-standing land dispute has been going on between people of UP chairman Kabir Hossen Dhala Mia of Bhurki village and Haji Sofir Ali of Ishabpur village. In continuation of this an argument took place between people of the two sides at noon on Sunday.

Later as the situation became heated both sides gathered their people by announcement on mosque mike. At one stage the two sides got involved in clash at Bhurki Bazar area. At that time at least 30 people of both sides were injured in mutual chasing and fighting.

A large number of police of Bishwanath Police Station went to the scene after receiving the news and brought the situation under control. Later additional police have been deployed in the area fearing fresh clash.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Bishwanath Police Station Gazi Mahbubur Rahman said the situation of the area is currently peaceful. If complaint is received in this incident legal action will be taken against those involved after investigation.
