Clash erupts at Islamic University over music dispute on bus
A series of clashes have occurred between students from two departments at Islamic University over a trivial dispute over playing music loudly on a bus. Several students, including the university proctor, were injured and assaulted in the incident.
After tension continued on the campus from Sunday afternoon to night, the situation calmed down around 2:30am with the intervention of the administration.
Eyewitnesses said that around 4pm, Hridoy, a student of the Department of Public Administration, and his friends were playing music loudly on a bus bound for Jhenaidah from the campus. Annoyed by this, a classmate sitting next to Antar Biswas, a student of the Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, asked them to calm down. At one stage of the discussion, the tension escalated into a scuffle and scuffle over the question of identity and session. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, where Antar Biswas is seen being beaten up. However, Hridoy claims that it was Antar who hit him first.
When both sides returned to the campus from Jhenaidah around 8:30pm, students from both departments gathered in front of the main gate and clashed again. The clash spread to both sides of the Diana Square and the main gate. While trying to control the situation, the windows of the Faculty of Technology building were also vandalized. Proctor Shahinuzzaman himself was slightly injured in the scuffle while trying to control the situation.
Both sides have accused each other of the attack and demanded a fair investigation and trial of the incident. Fakhrul Islam, president of the Public Administration Department, said that the administration is taking the incident with utmost importance and no concessions will be made if the allegations against anyone are proven.
University Proctor Shahinuzzaman said that the matter was resolved in discussions between both parties around 2:30am and the situation on the campus is currently normal.
