A clash occurred on Wednesday between indigenous students and a group of people associated with the platform "Students for Sovereignty" in front of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) at Motijheel in the capital. The incident took place around Wednesday noon beneath the Motijheel Metro Station. Many people have been reported injured.
A group of people under the banner of the dissatisfied indigenous students set out to protest from the base of Dhaka University’s Raju Sculpture, aiming to surround the NCTB office at Motijheel. Subsequently, the clash broke out between the indigenous students and the members of Students for Sovereignty in front of the NCTB building.
On the ground, it was observed that the protestors from Dhaka University, consisting of indigenous students, marched from the National Press Club and Doinik Bangla towards the Motijheel Metro Station. Members of Students for Sovereignty, who had already gathered there, were seen holding sticks in their hands.
When the indigenous student march reached the Metro Station area, the members of Students for Sovereignty initially blocked them. After some verbal exchanges, the situation escalated into a physical clash. Several people, including women, were injured in the incident. Many of the injured were evacuated by rickshaw vans for medical treatment.
The indigenous student protestors were demonstrating against the removal of the term "Indigenous" from the cover page of the Bengali second paper textbook for the 9th and 10th grades.
