A dispute over body-shaming a child escalated into a violent clash between two families in Jibannagar upazila, leaving at least 10 people seriously injured, including three women.

The incident occurred in Shakharia Das Para on Tuesday night, when a thin child was mockingly called "fat" by peers, sparking verbal altercations between families. The confrontation quickly turned physical, with both sides allegedly attacking each other using sticks, rods, machetes, and knives.

According to local sources, members of both families entered each other’s homes during the clash, resulting in severe injuries. Victims reportedly suffered head wounds and broken limbs.

Prashanta Kumar Das, one of the injured, filed a complaint alleging that Nitya Das and his family unlawfully entered his residence and assaulted his relatives. His nephew Michael Das was struck on the head with a stick, and Prashanta himself sustained injuries to his left hand. He also claimed that ৳13,000 and a gold ring were stolen during the attack.

In a counter-complaint, Sona Das accused Prashanta Das and his relatives of storming her home and attacking her brother Shimanto Das with a machete. She alleged that she was beaten while trying to rescue him and that her mother and sister-in-law were subjected to harassment during the assault.

Jibannagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mamun Hossain Biswas confirmed the incident, stating, “The clash stemmed from a dispute over a child being called fat. Police responded immediately, and both parties have filed written complaints. Legal action will be taken following a thorough investigation.”
