Clash over cricket match at SUST leaves 15 injured, including 4 teachers

A clash has occurred between students of two departments at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) centering around the final match of the inter-department cricket tournament. At least 15 people, including four teachers, have been injured in the incident.

The clash occurred between students of the Public Administration and Bengali departments at the university's central playground around 5:30 pm on Thursday.

Eyewitnesses said that after the match ended, students from both departments attacked each other with sticks, bats, and chairs. Several students were injured, and panic spread across the entire campus.

Two Assistant Proctors, Professor Md. Jahangir Alam and Professor Md. Omar Faruq, Public Administration department's Professor Dr. Md. Ashraf Siddiqui, and Lecturer Abdul Basit were injured while trying to control the situation.

The university's Proctor, Professor Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, confirmed the matter and said the injured have been given primary treatment. Two seriously injured individuals have been admitted to the hospital. The situation is currently under control.

He further said that the level to which students are reaching over trivial matters is alarming and has crossed the limit. There will be an investigation and justice based on fairness regarding this incident; no one will be spared.
