A series of clashes have occurred at Jagannath University (JnU) centering around the final match of the inter-department football tournament. At least 20 people, including campus correspondents of The Daily Star and Amar Desh newspapers, have been injured.

The clashes began between students of the Islamic Studies department and the Department of Communication and Journalism following the final match at the central playground, Dhupkhola, around 12:30 pm on Thursday.

It is known that after the scheduled match ended in a draw, it went to a tiebreaker. There, the Islamic Studies department won 3-0. After the match ended, an argument started between students of both departments, which later turned into physical clashes and repeated altercations.

During the clashes, over 20 students from both departments, including JnU reporter of The Daily Star Rakib Madbor and campus correspondent of Amar Desh Limon Islam, were injured. All the injured have been admitted to Dhaka National Medical Institute Hospital for treatment.

The situation was brought under control after the intervention of university authorities and other students.

Regarding this matter, the university's Proctor, Professor Dr. Tajammul Haque, said nearly 20 people were injured. A committee has been formed to investigate the incident, and necessary action will be taken against those involved after receiving the investigation report.
