According to local sources, illegal sand extraction had been going on in the char for a long time. When one party tried to extract sand by installing a dredger, the landowners stopped it on Thursday afternoon. This led to tension between the two parties.

Later, during the clash, people from one party set fire to a boat and later fled after abandoning the opposing party's motorcycle in the face of resistance from the villagers. It is said that the agitated crowd then set fire to 11 motorcycles left on the road.

Tension is still prevailing in the area over the incident. Bangladesh Police said that an investigation has been launched to control the situation.

The local administration says the violent incident stemmed from a long-standing dispute over sand mining, and an investigation is underway to identify those involved.
